🏛️ Pakistan Condemns Israel’s Annexation Bills
Pakistan, alongside 14 other countries, issued a joint statement condemning Tel Aviv’s attempt to annex the occupied West Bank, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed on Thursday.
The condemnation came after the Israeli Knesset (parliament) voted to advance two draft bills declaring so-called “Israeli sovereignty” over the West Bank — a move widely viewed as a direct violation of international law.
“Pakistan strongly condemns the approval of the Israeli Knesset of two draft laws aiming to impose a so-called ‘Israeli sovereignty’ over the occupied West Bank,” the FO said.
“This is a blatant breach of international law and UN resolutions.” ⚖️
🌐 Global Response and Joint Statement
The joint declaration — signed by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye, and 11 other nations — reaffirmed opposition to Israel’s unilateral expansion policies.
It underscored that such actions violate United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures that alter the demographic and territorial status of occupied Palestinian lands, including East Jerusalem.
“These measures undermine international peace and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” the statement said.
⚖️ Reference to the ICJ Advisory Opinion
The countries welcomed the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion (October 22, 2025), which reaffirmed that Israel’s occupation and settlement construction in Palestinian territories are illegal under international law.
According to the FO statement:
🏛️ The ICJ ruled that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).
🚫 It reaffirmed the prohibition of starvation and mass deportation as tools of war.
🕊️ It reminded Israel of its duty under humanitarian law to ensure civilians in Gaza and the West Bank receive essential supplies and humanitarian aid.
📘 It also emphasized the right of Palestinians to self-determination and independent statehood, declaring Israel’s territorial claims over East Jerusalem “null and void.”
🏗️ Israel’s Escalation Amid Ceasefire
The condemnation follows reports that Israel’s parliament advanced annexation bills just days after a US-brokered ceasefire aimed to end the two-year military offensive in Gaza.
US President Donald Trump had earlier warned that Israel risks losing critical US support if it proceeds with the annexation plan — signalling rare friction between Washington and Tel Aviv.
🚨 Call for Global Action
The joint statement urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral obligations, pressuring Israel to reverse its illegal measures and respect Palestinian sovereignty.
“The world must compel Israel to cease its dangerous escalation and unlawful acts in the occupied Palestinian territory,” the FO said.
“The only path toward lasting peace is through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.” 🇵🇸
🕊️ Context: A Deepening Crisis
Israel’s attempt to formalize control over the West Bank has drawn global condemnation amid ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza and growing scrutiny of Tel Aviv’s settlement policies.
The move also coincides with rising calls from rights groups for international accountability and the restoration of UNRWA’s full operational mandate in Palestinian areas.
