Government Opens Privatization Process for Major DISCOs

EOIs Invited for Three Power Companies

The Privatisation Commission announced that investors can submit Expressions of Interest for Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO). Under the proposed structure, investors may acquire between 51% and 100% ownership along with management control of the companies.

Part of Wider Energy Sector Reforms

Officials said the initiative is part of Pakistan’s long-term economic and energy sector reform strategy. The government aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce transmission losses, modernize infrastructure, and attract foreign investment through increased private sector participation.

Millions of Consumers Linked to DISCOs

FESCO, GEPCO, and IESCO collectively provide electricity to more than 14 million consumers across Punjab, Islamabad, and surrounding regions. These companies are considered among the country’s most commercially viable power distribution entities.

Application Deadlines Announced

According to the Privatisation Commission, separate applications will be required for each company. The submission deadlines are July 7 for FESCO, August 6 for GEPCO, and September 7 for IESCO. An online investor briefing session is also expected to be organized for interested bidders.
